Pierre-Gilles Euzen is an exciting new producer in the Anjou Noir, home to a band of cult winemakers making some of the Loire Valley’s best Chenin Blanc.

His focus is on producing excellent barrel-aged Chenins from the area’s top vineyards (including a parcel in the famed Montbenault site above Rablay-sur-Layon), as well as lively, crushable red and sparkling wines.

From the outset, it has helped that Pierre-Gilles has a good eye for finding excellent vineyard sites. Most of his Chenin Blanc and the Cabernet Franc come from old-vine plots around Beaulieu (vineyards which he has embellished by co-planting fruit trees — pears, apples and apricots – in the rows). And he recently acquired a small plot in the prized vineyard of Montbenault in nearby Rablay-sur-Layon (made famous by
winemakers like Richard Leroy and Thomas Batardière).
