Our Spirits from the Source club continues its exploration of Armagnac this fall with this 1992 single cask from Domaine de Jean-Bon. This is a very small family domaine in the Bas-Armagnac that distills micro-quantities (approximately four-to-six 400 liter casks worth per year ). Clémence Sourdois and her mother Béatrice now run the farm, and look after a stock of concentrated, lithe Armagnacs distilled from primarily the Baco grape. The cellar is dry and contains a treasure trove of pristine older juice at high proof. During our last visit, this 1992 immediately stood out to us as the perfect cask to introduce the balanced, quietly powerful Armagnacs of Jean-Bon.

Tasting notes:

Strawberry, orange and passionfruit start on nose and continue through the palate, where caramel vanilla and creme brule emerge.  There’s rancio for days as it transitions a compelling, long and elegant finish.  This drinks 20 years older than it is, and has the concentration combined with a lightness on the palate found in the great armagnacs of the late 1960's
